In the wheelchair is Su Li-Wen of Chinese-Taipei (Taiwan). She competed with an injured left knee in the women's 57-kg Taekwondo and fought in excruciating pain to the end. In the last round, she fell 11 times yet refused to concede.
Robina Muqimyar of Afghanistan who competed in the 100 meters. She came to Beijing despite the mysterious disappearance of teammate Mehboba Ahadyar (around July 4, while training in Italy), who was to run in the women's 1500- and 3000-m events.
Any idea what happended to her teammate? Sounds very ominous...
ReplyDeletePresumably, Ms Robina Muqimyar's teammate, Ms Mehboba Ahadyar is either being treated for an injury in Italy or seeking political asylum in Norway. However, no one has seen her since.
ReplyDeleteMs Robina Muqimyar herself is under the same death threats. She chooses to come to the Games to represent the women in her country.
It makes what Matos of Cuba did in Taekwondo the match for the bronze medal even more disgusting! Watch as he kicks the referee for disqualifying him for taking too much time during the allotted 1 minute for an injury timeout.
ReplyDeleteThis kick is perhaps a sign of what's fundamentally wrong with the once powerful Cuban sports.
